Position Name: Communication Engineer
Job Description:
Basic Functions:
Performs and directs complex engineering work and technical services within the recognized fields of Communications and Data Engineering; serves as a consultant on IT aspects of new engineering projects and studies and participates in the resolution of related problems relevant to other company organizations.
Scope:
Incumbent is required to perform with minimum supervision a variety of complex functions such as the management or design of engineering projects from the time of inception through project proposal, expenditure request, design, material specifications, scheduling and coordination with proponent, and construction, manages work force involved. Incumbent is accountable for economical expenditure of funds consistent within acceptable design practices to insure the construction of the project facilities within a scheduled completion dates.
Principal Contacts:
INTERNAL: Line management representatives and engineers throughout the Company to present, discuss and resolve communication projects, studies and design work.
EXTERNAL: Make contacts with major design contractors and service organizations for the purpose of work coordination.
Minimum Requirements:
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent discipline.
Seven (7) years minimum experience in design and construction of communications and/or systems and facilities. Experience must demonstrate that the incumbent is clearly qualified to capably administer project and design assignments beyond the ability of a basic Communications Engineer III. Supervisory experience is desirable but not a prerequisite.
Must have a thorough knowledge of current engineering practices and economic principles, calculation methods, design details, international and Saudi Aramco codes, standards and specifications. Experience in oil industry communications and/or data systems is desirable but not necessarily a requirement.
Principal Duties: :
Formulates the basis for engineering studies, projects and designs in the communications and data engineering field by evaluation of relevant data. Evaluates data as to scope, effect on existing facilities and systems, economic value, long-range planning and budgetary considerations.
Plans, schedules, coordinates, and provides work direction as required for the preparation of design for new communication, data and multi media systems, modifications to existing systems, or new facilities. Responsible for preparing reports, correspondence, correlating data and assuring conformance to overall objectives of projects.
Initiates detailed work outlines and decides upon basic system or facility equipment types and configurations. Performs as supervisor for work of other engineers during final development of technical proposals and studies.
Discusses and coordinates the resolution of communication, data and multi media problems with personnel throughout the organization, affiliated companies, design contractors and equipment suppliers. Acts as a technical consultant to engineers in other fields as required.
Recommends new equipment, operating and installation standards and/or modifications to existing standards to insure that the standards are current and in accordance with the latest practices within the industry.
Prepares detailed cost estimates, justifications, and expenditure requests as required. Maintains cost control on approved projects through project completion.
Reviews work of engineers to ensure that reports are correct both in content and form and makes recommendations to improve reports, where appropriate approves such reports for transmittal to supervisor.
Monitors the development of junior engineers to ensure they progress to required departmental standards.
